2. SPOTLIGHT ON LYDIA

“Pilates is for everyone and that’s what makes it amazing.”

Lydia has been an absolute gem and perfect addition to our Tribe Flow family. Today we are getting to know her a little better.

Lydia, what do you love about pilates?

I love the discipline of Pilates. How practice makes perfect. How good it makes me and my body feel. Each technique has been thoughtfully created so that it leads to progression throughout the sequence.

Who is pilates for? Can you do it without experience?

Pilates is for everyone and that is what makes it amazing. Joseph Pilates originally created Pilates for rehabilitation and so it is ideal for any stage of fitness.  Each technique can be adapted to beginners or advance.

You have quite an unusual mix of skills, namely your shamanic training. What is shamanism and what drew you to it?

That is a great question, shamanism is a spiritual practice that in involves an ancient way of healing yourself, the land and your ancestors. Shamanism can be seen right here in Ireland through our pagan and Celtic traditions. That is what drew me to shamanism, because it created a connection  to my ancestors and the land I stand on.

Pilates and shamanism are two completely different worlds. How has marrying and weaving these together supported you on your journey?

They are two different worlds but they have similarities. Discipline is needed in both shamanism and Pilates. They both hold you accountable. The beauty of Pilates, is that it makes you aware of your breath and how your body works. I find this correlates with shamanism because at its core, shamanism is knowing yourself and trusting your intuition. So for me, combing these creates both spiritual and physical healing on all levels.

Could you tell us a bit more about your “sacred core” vision?

Sacred core is a workshop I would love to host one day. It combines building physical core strength through Pilates exercises, followed by a strengthening of the spiritual core through shamanic meditation. Our core is so deeply ingrained in who we are and supports our entire system, physically and energetically.

What is one fun fact about you that people might be surprised to know?

I’m probably the most laid back person you would ever meet, truly, nothing bothers me. I flew to Australia and back within a week and none of it from the travel to being somewhere foreign phased me.

That’s all for this month, sending you all so much love🩷

- Megan, Owner of Tribe Flow
