TEACHER SPOTLIGHT: SEÁN OUR ASHTANGI

We are so very lucky at Tribe Flow, to have a team of quality teachers. This month, we’re turning the mic to Seán. With a background in neuroscience, he approaches yoga through both a scientific and an intuitive lens. But how did Seán find himself teaching you?

Q: What first brought you to yoga?

“I stumbled into yoga through free classes at my university gym. My very first class turned out to be a deeply traditional Ashtanga practice, complete with Sanskrit chanting, and I had absolutely no idea what was happening! I left confused, but deeply curious. That curiosity about what yoga is and what it’s ultimately pointing towards has stayed with me ever since.”

Q: How would you describe your teaching style?

“My teaching is rooted in the Ashtanga tradition, a dynamic and breath-led practice that links movement, breath, and focused attention. While tradition informs my teaching, I always encourage students to adapt the practice to their own bodies and experiences. Your yoga practice should support you, not ask you to override yourself.

Q: Who are your classes for?

“Anyone who is curious. Whether you’re stepping onto a mat for the first time or have been practising for years, my intention is to create a space where people can explore yoga in a way that feels supportive, meaningful, and sustainable.”

Q: What are you currently reading or exploring?

“I’m currently reading Listen to the Land Speak by Manchán Magan and exploring the connections and shared threads between Irish and Indian spiritual traditions.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can yoga help with nervous system regulation?

Yes! Most definitely! Yoga is a great way to shift your body from “fight or flight” and into “rest and digest mode”. Through a combination of mindful movement, controlled breathing and relaxation, yoga sends signals to the brain that it is safe to slow down.

Did you know that your left nostril is connected with your right brain and as such, your parasympathetic nervous system? A common practise in yoga is alternate nostril breathing, called Nadi Shodhana. This to bring the left and right hemispheres of the brain into balance and reduce stress.

But yoga doesn’t only help you relax during class, it can also train your nervous system to become more resilient, making it easier to cope with everyday challenges.

Till next time, Love Megan🩷
